Rissho Kosei-kai Buddhist Church of Hawaii will pay our respects to those who have passed on by having an Obon festival. To honor ancestors, we will have our altar decorated and allow you to light a candle and place your loved one’s names onto the altar to be prayed for by our church.
The event will feature the traditional Obon dance lead by The Young Okinawans of Hawaii in the traditional Okinawan-style of bon dance with music provided by Ukwanshin Kabudan under the direction of Sensei Norman Kaneshiro. We will also have Hikariyama Torao perform by singing the classical Enka style of Japanese music.
There will be dance, food, and games for the keiki, to enjoy the season of Obon with traditional dance and by spending time honoring your ancestors.
All items will need to be purchased with scripts that are sold at the ticket booth.
All food is prepared by our church members as an effort to give back to our Pearl City community we serve.
